Oil Pulling with Hippocrates Organic Olive Oil

The Science

What is Oil Pulling Therapy?

Oil Pulling Therapy (OP) was first recorded in the "Charaka Samhita", the main text from which Ayurveda practice is taught, circa 1000bc. It is an ancient healing art, involving the rinsing of one’s mouth with oil daily, which promotes oral health and helps to correct imbalances in our body’s endocrine and immune systems, allowing us to live a healthier and happier life!

What does Oil Pulling Therapy do for You?

This simple method makes it possible to heal a wide variety of diseases which would normally be treated by an operation or by powerful drugs that have significant side-effects.
Research done by the Department of Microbiology, V. H. N. S. N. College, has shown that OP resulted in an average reduction of bacteria which cause dental caries, also known as tooth decay or dental cavities, by 20% after 40 days of OP.

In 1996, Andhra Jyoti, a Telugu daily news paper, conducted a survey to find out the types of diseases cured and the effectiveness of OP. Out of a total of 1041 respondents, 927 (89%) reported cure of one or more diseases.
By means of this treatment, diseases like migraine, bronchitis, diseased teeth, arthritis, eczema and many other illnesses were completely eliminated from people practising OP.
The first sign of improvement is in the teeth-they become firm and white. Other healing indications: fresh, relaxed feeling on waking up, disappearing dark pouches below the eyes, renewed appetite and energy, better memory and deeper sleep.

How does Oil Pulling Therapy work?

Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ayurveda teach that each section of the tongue is connected to different body organs. Thus, an oil-mouth-massage soothes and stimulates the key meridians, where taste meets organ, to naturally detoxify.
Modern research shows that many of OP’s health benefits may vary depending on the type of oil used. Oils with strong anti-microbial properties would sanitize disease-causing microbes extracted through the saliva during OP. The membranes of the mouth can also absorb nutrients from anti-oxidant packed oil. Toxins which are stored in our body also tend to be fat-soluble and would pass out through the large surface areas of the salivary glands and membranes of the mouth to dissolve in the oil used during OP. Since it takes 20 mins for blood to circulate through our entire body, it is advisable to practice OP for the full duration to obtain maximum health benefits.

Why use Hippocrates Extra-Virgin Organic Olive Oil?

As oil-fats rancidify, triglycerides are converted into fatty acids and glycerol, causing an increase in acid number. The standard acid value is 0.6 for labeling a bottle of olive oil as extra-virgin whereas Hippocrates Extra-Virgin Olive Oil has an acid value of only 0.2, THREE times fresher than most commercial olive oils!
Hippocrates Olive Oil achieves this by using only small Koreneiki olives, cold-pressed to produce oil that retains more than 30 plant compounds which are usually removed in refined oil. These compounds’ have strong antioxidant, anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory effects, making Hippocrates Extra-Virgin Organic Olive Oil the oil of choice for use in Oil Pulling Therapy.

The Art

Step 1:
First thing in the morning before eating or drinking anything, pour half a tablespoon (10 ml) of organic Hippocrates extra-virgin olive oil into your mouth.

Step 2:
Swish the oil in your mouth and through your teeth, as if it was mouthwash (don't gargle or swallow it though). If you have the urge to swallow, take a deep breath (through your nose!) and that sometimes stops the urge. You'll find that the oil will start to get watery as your saliva mixes with it. Relax your jaw muscles and use your tongue to help move the liquid around the inside of your mouth. When you do this correctly, you'll feel very comfortable.

Step 3:
When the oil has become saturated with the toxins it has pulled out, it will become white with a milky consistency. You don’t want to spit it out until the oil has become white. Each time you oil pull, it can take a different amount of time to get to that point, 20 minutes is a general rule of thumb, but you can experiment with this.

Step 4:
After spitting out the toxins laden oil, rinse out your mouth a couple of times with warm water and brush teeth very thoroughly with or without toothpaste.

Step 5:
Repeat daily and you will soon start feeling and looking healthier and happier!

Precautions

Who can practice Oil Pulling Therapy?

Everybody above the age of five years can practise. For children of five years and above, use only a teaspoon (5 ml) of oil to prevent choking. Dentures should be removed before practising. Pregnant women are advised not to do major detoxification without consulting with a naturopathic physician. If you are allergic to a particular brand of oil, change the brand of oil or the type of oil used. OP can also be done whilst on medication.

What is the reason for Oil Pulling on an empty stomach?

It helps not to have a full stomach in case you get a little queasy from the oil pulling experience before you get used to it. Eating something light may not be a problem, and you can judge by how you feel.

What other problems might arise during Oil Pulling Therapy?

(1) Oil does not become watery or thin
Oil does not become watery because there is inadequate salivation. In such cases, you must drink two or three glasses of water, go for a walk of 30 to 45 minutes and do Oil Pulling Therapy after returning.

(II) Sneezing and coughing
If you have to sneeze or cough through mouth do it in the sink or some such place to avoid oil driblets spray all over or cover mouth with tissue paper.

(III) Phlegm in the throat gets loose and comes into the mouth
If phlegm comes into the mouth, making pulling inconvenient, spit and do pulling with fresh oil again.
